The past ten days have been cloudy here. Rainy, too.

I don’t do well with cloudy.

Maybe I have greater vitamin D needs than other people, but I seem to need sunlight.

Oh, I know the sun is always there, but when it’s hidden behind a veil of clouds, I just feel gray.

I was pondering this the other day and realized I get that way about God, too, sometimes.

It started when I was looking at Facebook. One sweet friend posted a lot of pictures along with exciting stories about mission work she was doing in Haiti for the month of November. My heart was so encouraged as I read about and glimpsed how God was working in this tiny village way far away. It was like a shaft of light breaking through the clouds.

Sometimes it is hard to see what God is doing where I am serving. I know he’s there. Like the sun he’s warming hearts and sustaining life. But sometimes he’s veiled by the clouds.

Did I mention I don’t do well with cloudy?

When I hear what God is doing in and through his saints in far away places, it inspires hope and strengthens my faith. I see the shaft of light and remember he’s still working, even if I cannot see it in my cloudy neck of the woods.

I think that’s why God called Israel to tell of the wondrous things the Lord had done for them.

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, O offspring of Abraham, his servant,
children of Jacob, his chosen ones! Psalm 105:1-6

… tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am theLORD. Exodus 10:2

We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. Psalm 78:4

I think it’s why scripture emphasizes the need to be part of a community of saints.

Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:25

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Acts 2:42

So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Romans 12:5

I think it’s part of being called to relationships that point us to Jesus.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17

And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

Please, don’t hide the light of what God is doing in your neck of the woods. I don’t do well with cloudy. And I suspect other people in your life need the Sonlight, too.
